Here it is, the request I get the most: ‘What do you do daily to heal your mind, body, and spirit?’
Firstly, here is what I believe: I believe in whole self/body wellness. You can’t heal one part without the other. Everything is interconnected. Our body works together as one big team. I will forever be in awe of how miraculous our bodies are and what they do for us each and every day, every minute, every second we are alive.
We owe our bodies so much gratitude, so much love, and nurturing. Anything less is insanity.
Before we get into all the details, I want to share something I know for sure, and from years of experience: You cannot hate or punish your body into health, being the size you deem perfect, or the right number on a scale. Only love can do that—unconditional love for yourself and your incredible, beautiful, hard-working body.
It is important to note that many days I do every last thing here; other days just some of them, and some days just what I can manage depending on what is going on in my life. It’s also important to note that some of these things change with the different seasons; these were my summer daily practices. And one final note: You only need to take on what resonates with you. These things work wonders for me and my healing. Listen to your intuition, your gut, and your body; they will tell you what will work for you.
Alright, let’s start.
On waking and before I even get out of bed every morning:
I am usually up by 6 a.m. to fit in this morning routine. For me, this is non-negotiable; it sets up my entire day, and it’s all done and ready for me to start my work by 9 a.m.
- I go through at least three things I am grateful for.
- I give thanks that I woke up and took a breath this morning. I am alive, life is good, and I am going to have a great day.
- I then do a full fingertip-to-toe stretch and ankle and wrist circles.
- Now I plant my feet on the ground and remind myself today will be a great day.
Next:
- I have a large warm fresh ginger and fresh lemon water with a pinch of Celtic salt. I sip this before and during:
- A 15-minute yoga stretch.
- The next thing I do is one week on, one week off. I have my health shot: 1 tbsp olive oil + 1 tbsp lemon juice + ½ tsp cayenne pepper + ½ tsp ground turmeric + a teeny tiny pinch of ground black pepper. Mix and throw it back, followed by a glass of water.
I fill 2 one-liter water bottles with water to sip throughout the day.
Then I am off out the door:
- 30-minute walk. If for some reason I can’t do 30 minutes, I just do what I can, or I’ll do 3 ten-minute walks wherever I can fit them through the day.
Once home:
- 10-20 minutes of weights; I only do this 3-4 times per week, not every day.
- 2-minute health bounce on my rebounder.
Before I shower:
- 2-minute body brush.
Whilst in the shower:
- 7-step lymphatic drainage routine.
- 10 minutes of oil pulling.
I am all about habit stacking; if I’m in the shower, I may as well use the time to do other wellness routines as well.
Next is different each day. Some mornings I fast until lunch; other days I eat breakfast. I am guided by my body and how I am feeling. If I eat breakfast, I will have a very light dinner or no dinner and fast until the next morning.
Breakfast: 3 eggs + ½ avocado + loads of greens and herbs + kimchi + slices of roast pumpkin + 2 slices of my healthy veggie bread.
After breakfast:
- COFFEE!
- Meditate for 10-20 minutes.
- Oracle cards/connect with my angels for guidance.
Lunch:
Normally around 12-1 PM depending on how in my workflow I am.
- ⅓ lentil dahl + ⅓ sweet potato + salmon fillet + loads of greens and herbs + kimchi + a few black beans.
I have most of this already prepped in the fridge in containers ready to go, heat, and eat. I do a big meal prep session every Sunday.
Dinner:
- Usually a bowl of soup or a bowl of salad, something light if I have two large meals already.
- If I fasted at breakfast, I would have 200g of chicken, fish, or steak + 1-2 cups of root veggies and cruciferous veggies + 1 cup of greens and herbs.
- If I am still hungry or looking for a snack, I would have ½ cup of blueberries + ½ cup of Greek or coconut yogurt + a Medjool date + a few walnuts.
I always ensure I don’t eat at least 2-3 hours before bed.
These are daily health/healing practices I fit into my day where I can, usually after work or before dinner:
- 20-30 minutes in the sauna
- 15-20 minutes of self-care; journal, listen to a podcast, meditate, read, whatever I feel I need
- Practice balance; tree pose or one foot to my inner thigh, holding for one minute then swapping. I do this while I brush my teeth—habit stack!
My sleep routine is another non-negotiable for me:
- No screens 2-3 hours before bed
- No food 2-3 hours before bed
- Dark room and cool temperature
- Brain dump on paper to empty my thoughts and worries if I need to
- Legs up the wall for 5-10 minutes
- Deep breathing exercises
- Lavender plant near my bed
- Herbal tea
